What's a Seedy Saturday?
Seedy Saturday (February 26, 10-12) is E.A.T. South’s annual celebration of seeds and gardening in Montgomery. Our goal for this free event is to connect neighbors with each other and with the materials they need to grow their own food.
At this year’s Seedy Saturday, you’ll find:
SEEDS!
Did you buy too many seed packets last year? Do you save seeds from your own garden? We invite you to bring those extra seeds to share with your neighbors. Vegetable and flower seeds are welcome. We ask that seeds are no more than two years old. (The older seeds are, the less likely they are to sprout.)
If you don’t have seeds, that’s ok! We always have plenty of seeds for everyone.
E.A.T. South is sharing:
Sweet potato and sunchoke roots, pigeon peas, marigolds, amaranth, field peas, tomatoes, peppers, basil and lots of Seeds of Change seed packets donated by Whole Foods.
An Introduction to Seed Starting
Master Gardener Jamie Walcott will teach a short workshop focused on getting your seeds off to a good start.
Montgomery’s Garden Community
Connect with organizations that help Montgomery grow including: Capital City Master Gardeners, St. Peter Health and Wellness Ministry, Sow America, Alabama Herb Society, Montgomery City-County Libraries, Legacy Heritage Gardens, Alabama State Teaching Garden, and Grow More-Give More.
Garden Tool & Book Swap
We’re adding a new swap area for tools and books to help you grow. Do you have tools taking up space in your garage or shed? Do you know someone who is downsizing into a smaller space with tools that need a good home? We’ll take tools in good condition, tomato cages & trellises, good quality garden pots, hoses (without holes), sprinklers, watering cans, any useful garden implements. No chemicals or poisons please.
You’re also welcome to bring garden books and cookbooks.
This year, we’re excited to have people back on the farm for an in person Seedy Saturday. We guarantee you’ll find great garden friends & fellowship at Seedy Saturday. See you there!
