Hello 2021!
Curious what we’re planning for 2021? Here’s a preview to help you grow into the new year.
Get Ready, Get Set, Grow! Ready, Set, Grow! is our 2021 virtual garden workshop series. With short evening classes on soil, planning, bed preparation, seed starting, and more, our goal is to provide you with information and encouragement to get your garden started. Classes will be Thursday evenings with an optional small group Saturday project following the workshop.
Farmily Days Return! Farmer Amanda is planning monthly farm-y activities for kids and their grown ups on the second Saturday of the month. The activities are free, but you will need to make reservations so we can keep everyone safe. We’ll post links to tickets on Facebook.
Virtual Seed Swap Seedy Saturday goes virtual this February. More info to come, but you can drop off seeds during the month of January, we’ll post a list at the beginning of February, and fill orders for no-contact pick-up at the end of the month.
100 Gardens Project - In 2020, we had the Tomato Challenge. In 2021, we hope to see 100 new gardens grow in Montgomery. Do you think a garden might be fun but aren’t sure where to start? Join us!
Virtual Farm Tours - While you can still schedule a small group field trip at E.A.T. South, in 2021, we will offer live, interactive Zoom tours of the farm for teachers and their classes. You can also schedule a tour for your friends and family. Email goodfoodday@eatsouth.org to learn more.
Saturday Projects - Each Saturday, Farmer Caylor will lead hands-on projects organized around a theme or skill like garden tool maintenance, pruning, seed starting or transplanting.
Special Workshops - March 6, Gardening with the Community - leaders from Neighborhood Services, Nixon-Times Garden, and the Old Cloverdale Community Garden will share their experiences starting and maintaining community garden projects. We are also planning special workshops in May and June with guest speakers focused on growing turmeric and identifying garden critters.
Farm-y videos for all ages - This winter your farmers have been sharpening their video skills (we’d rather sharpen hoes, but the times require it) to offer more educational programs for youth and adults.
On-going activities - Throughout 2021, we will continue our community harvests for local food pantries, create after school activity kits for community centers, and be open as a place to visit and relax. We also offer weekly volunteer mornings on Thursdays & Fridays at 9 am.
We hope you will get involved or stop by for a visit. These programs are possible because many people give time and money to support garden education in Montgomery. Please donate if you can!
