Grow with us: Planning Your Fall Garden

It’s time to start your fall garden! While we love hands-on learning at the farm, this year, we’re dipping our muddy fingers into online classes. (The computer is not happy.)

Join us Thursday, August 13, 6:30 pm first online garden planning workshop. First, RSVP for Thursday’s workshop by emailing Farmer Caylor, and she will send you the info about how to log in.

We want to keep the workshop content short. So here’s what we’ll cover during this first workshop:

  • What to grow in the fall.

  • When to plant it.

  • Challenges and solutions for fall gardens.

In order to get the most out of Thursday’s workshop, take a minute and think about:

  1. What do you want to eat? Grab a notebook, your phone or your favorite online tool and make a list right now.

  2. Check out Planting Guide for Home Gardening in Alabama. Scroll down to the bottom of the post for the list of vegetables and planting dates. Bookmark it. This is a great resource for year round gardening. (A little secret-the dates aren’t totally accurate for our region because this is for the whole state - Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery have very different growing seasons. Thursday, we’ll cover how to figure out planting dates. for wherever you are.)

  3. Check out the National Weather Service freeze information. Our frost dates determine when we need to have our plants in the ground and growing. We’ll talk about how to use the frost dates to decide when to plant.

Don’t forget to RSVP so we can send you the login information for the workshop, and feel free to send us questions, too! Also, we’re trying to figure out how to make these online classes interesting and valuable to you so your feedback is welcome.
